An important decision that could make or break the yearbook is the selection of a printing press. Price should not be the most important consideration when it comes to choosing a printing press. Experience and quality counts the most - after all, we graduate only once from high school and get only one high school yearbook. Nevertheless, Price plays a role as a limiting factor.

There are no hard and fast rules to selecting a printing press.
All I can offer are the following tips:

  1. Always demand several sample yearbooks which the printing press worked on previously. Be careful of printers who misrepresent others' work as their own.
We experienced this with Mactan Printing Press, who showed us a yearbook with the Insta Printers logo conveniently blacked out as one of their "samples".

  2. Conduct a survey (or better yet, a bidding) among selected yearbook publishers in your area. Require them to state all of their terms and other conditions, and pay special attention to the terms of payment.

  3. Never rush the decision - haste makes waste. On the other hand, do not put off the decision for too long - he who hesitates is lost. Clichéd, yes, but very true.
We had the chance to sign the contract with Insta Printers on July 1998.  Unfortunately, we hesitated until October since we were hunting for a better price. We ended up back at Insta Printers, but the price has escalated from P690 per yearbook to P1,000+ because of the Asian Currency Crisis. The experience was very painful.

A list of printers can be found in your local Yellow Pages directory.  In Cebu City, Tesoro's Printing Press is widely used, as well as Insta Printers.  These two printing presses have the most experience when it comes to yearbooks.
